Course Information
Description This laboratory-based course accompanies GEOL 1304, Historical Geology. Laboratory
activities will introduce methods used by scientists to interpret the history of life and major events in the physical development of Earth from rocks and fossils.
Prerequisites None
Learning Outcomes Continually tested for comprehension and understanding of important scientific terminology.

Devised memorization of fundamental knowledge essential to understanding the grand connections of plate tectonic theory.

Recognition/resolution of conflicts among business, societal, and government interests.

Displays an understanding that all environmental issues strongly interconnect and cannot be solved by simplistic thinking.

Core Objectives Communication Skills: Students will demonstrate effective written, oral, and visual communication.

Critical Thinking Skills: Students will engage in creative thinking, innovation, inquiry, and analysis, evaluation, synthesis of information, organizing concepts, and constructing solutions.

Empirical and Quantitative Skills: Students will demonstrate applications of scientific and mathematical concepts.

Teamwork: Students will demonstrate the ability to work effectively with others to support a shared purpose or goal and consider different points of view.
Program Student Learning Outcomes CSLO 1--Develops an ability to illustrate, express, and correctly organize processes involved in Earth Cycles.
CSLO 2--Develops an ability to understand, add to, and link the intricate workings of Earth Cycle systems.
CSLO 3--Demonstrates Data-management, trend-analysis, and graphing of relationships through lab assignments.
CSLO 4--Demonstrates the ability to work together cooperatively in small groups on projects that require shared conclusions.
Textbooks Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer.
